SUMMARY:An Organic-Photoconductive-Film CMOS Image Sensor’s Advanced Technologies - Ms. Kazuko Nishimura\, Panasonic Corporation\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:We have developed a CMOS image sensor with an organic photoconductive film (OPF) laminated on pixel circuits\, different from those of a conventional silicon image sensors\, in which the organic thin film for photoelectric conversion and the charge storage part for signal charge accumulation are completely independent. In this presentation\, we focus on the advantageous features of the OPF image sensor; technology that realizes over 120 dB simultaneous-capture wide dynamic range; global shutter technology achieving high saturation signals per unit square that is 10 dB higher than that of silicon image sensors with the global shutter function\, without sacrificing pixel area; RGB-NIR sensor technology capable of controlling NIR sensitivity by simply controlling the voltage applied to the OPF. Moreover\, we introduce about 8K4K high resolution sensor technologies with 60fps high frame rate\, 450ke- high saturation signals\, and the global shutter function at the same time. We believe these features of the OPF image sensor will contribute to leaps in the imaging and sensing fields.\nKazuko Nishimura received the B.E. degree in mechanical engineering from Osaka University\, and joined Panasonic Corporation where she engaged in high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) in 1995. She developed optical communication systems for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH)\, RF tuners and CMOS image sensors. Currently\, she is a manager in Technology Division (R&D Division)\, Panasonic Corporation and pursues research on the organic photoconductive film (OPF) CMOS image sensors and sensor applications. She serves A-SSCC data converter subcommittee chair and ISSCC Imagers\, Medical\, MEMS and Displays subcommittee\, IEEE SSCS distinguished Lecturer\, and the SSCS Adcom. SUMMARY:Mechanical and Electrical models using SIMULINK
DESCRIPTION:The Industry Application society held a free workshop in association with IMechE\, that introduced the SIMULINK program to students\, which is a systems modeling\, simulation and analysis software that also models both continuous and discontinuous systems. Using Simulink\, you can build models from scratch or modify existing systems\, and the benefit of this is to study the characteristics of a system before starting implementation to determine the nature of the system's response to inputs.\nThe workshop included four virtual sessions.\nSpeaker(s): Dr Kamel Subhi\, Abdullah Bishtawi\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/285958

SUMMARY:Embedded Systems Design in the Era of AI - Prof. Michael Huebner\, Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU)\, Cottbus\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:The increasing demands of complexity\, flexibility and self-organization of networked embedded systems require new solutions for the local processor architectures and firmware. This includes the ability to adapt to the requirements of an algorithm e.g. in relation to a sensor value measured by an Cyberphysical System. Artificial intelligence becomes ubiquitous and therefore enters also the domain of embedded systems and enables enormous opportunities in edge computing. This will introduce new degrees of freedom in embedded and Cyberpyhsical systems and is very promising to support the aforementioned demands tremendously. In this talk\, possible solutions for next generation embedded systems with AI components will be introduced.\nMichael Huebner is a Full Professor and leads the Chair for Computer Engineering at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) in Cottbus\, Germany\, since 2018.\nHe is also Vice-President for research and transfer at BTU since December 2020.\nHe received his diploma degree in electrical engineering and information technology in 2003\, his Ph.D. degree in 2007 from the University of Karlsruhe (TH)\, and did his habilitation in 2011 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the domain of reconfigurable computing systems.\nHis research interests are in reconfigurable computing and particularly new technologies for adaptive FPGA run-time reconfiguration and on-chip network structures with application in automotive systems\, incl. the integration into high-level design and programming environments.\nImportant: The participation is free of charge\, but registration is required >> [/registration-michael-huebner/](https://acrc.net.technion.ac.il/registration-michael-huebner/).\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/297822

SUMMARY:A new published book "Electrical Product Compliance and Safety Engineering"
DESCRIPTION:Was presented the volume II of the book "Electrical Product Compliance and Safety Engineering" by Steli Loznen and Constantin Bolintineanu. The book was published by Artech House (London\, Boston). This second volume of Electrical Product Compliance and Safety Engineering book is an exciting update to the first volume with content not readily known to most compliance engineers. The topics presented in this book is not taught in academia.\nThe first volume of this book focused on standards\, design philosophy\, methods for failure analysis\, construction requirements\, component selection and implementation\, markings and labeling\, human factors\, testing\, manufacturing for compliance and education. There is no other book that discusses these topics in extreme detail making this book a classic.\nThis second volume presents an enhanced approach toward product safety compliance that includes safety aspects of various product approvals\, energy management\, environment concerns\, material science\, radiation\, hazardous location use and global market access. This book does not replace the outstanding content of the first volume\, it enhances it with advances in safety compliance.\nSpeaker(s): Steli Loznen\, Constantin Bolintineanu\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/303267

SUMMARY:Discrete Event Systems Specification
DESCRIPTION:Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) refers to the trend to use models systematically throughout the design process. MBSE has been struggling to find a way to connect the blueprint models that describe the initial architecture with ways to check and evaluate these plans. Simulation has become the preferred means to support this goal. Discrete Event Systems Specification (DEVS) is a model-based way to perform simulation and connect the stages of MBSE.\nDEVS enables you to represent real systems (existing or hypothetical) so they can be digitally represented and simulated. It is a part of a framework and theory of modelling and simulation and is unique as a way of constructing a simulation model that is based on a mathematical theory of systems. In this talk\, we answer some questions such as: How/when was DEVS born? How does it compare to other abstractions? Where does it make most sense to use? Where will it lead? What are the potential benefits of DEVS? What is made possible as a direct result of using DEVS?\nAfter a short review and some example case studies\, we present our vision for fully integrated modeling and simulation support of MBSE life cycle based on DEVS. We close by considering the current state-of-the-art in tools available and under development towards this vision.\nCo-sponsored by: Israeli Association for Systems Engineering – INCOSE_IL – האיגוד הישראלי להנדסת מערכות\nSpeaker(s): Prof. Bernard P. SUMMARY:Power efficiency in the next generation of 5G-6G analog front-ends - Prof. Antonio Liscidini\, University of Toronto\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:Nowadays\, both digital and analog electronics are reaching fundamental limits that will require revolutionary approaches to satisfy the power/bandwidth requirements of the next generation of data-driven applications.\nAfter a brief overview of the modern wireless transceiver architecture\, some key elements that will characterize 5G and 6G networks will be discussed. The talk will continue by analyzing the power efficiency of the analog signal processing by highlighting the presence of a thermodynamic upper-bound which relates dynamic range\, bandwidth and power dissipation. Alternative strategies to circumvent this limit will be discusses such as adaptivity\, passive time-variant signal processing and quantized analog signal processing. In particular\, the latter represents a novel approach where the analog and digital domain are fused together in a more fluid scenario compared to traditional mixed-signal circuits. This operation leads to superior power efficiency and flexibility.\nThe effectiveness of the proposed solutions will be demonstrated through simulations and measurement results on different prototypes.\nAntonio Liscidini received the Laurea (summa cum laude) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Pavia\, Pavia\, Italy\, in 2002 and 2006\, respectively.\nHe was a summer Intern with National Semiconductors\, Santa Clara\, CA\, USA\, in 2003\, studying poly phase filters and CMOS low-noise amplifiers. From 2008 to 2012\, he was an Assistant Professor with the University of Pavia and a consultant with Marvell Semiconductors\, Pavia\, in the area of integrated circuit. In 2012\, he moved to the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, University of Toronto\, Toronto\, ON\, Canada\, where he is currently an Associate professor. In 2019 he has become consultant for Huawei Technology Group in the area of RFIC for optical communication. His research interests are focused on analog mixed signal interfaces with particular emphasis on the implementations of transceivers and frequency synthesizers for wireless and wireline communication.\nDr. Liscidini was a recipient of the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 2005 Symposium on VLSI Circuits and co-recipient of the Best Invited Paper Award at the 2011 IEEE CICC and the Best Student Paper Award at the 2018 IEEE ESSCIRC. He has served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs (2008-2011) (2017- 2018) and for the IEEE Open Journal of Solid-State Circuit Society (2021)\, as a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (2013) (2016) and Guest Editor of the IEEE RFIC Virtual Journal (2018). SUMMARY:Ultra Wide Band Surveillance Radar
DESCRIPTION:Ultra Wide Band Surveillance Radar\nDr. Mark E. Davis\nAESS Distinguished Lecturer\, IEEE Life Fellow\nMedavis Consulting\, Prospect NY\, USA\nUltra Wide Band Surveillance Radar is an emerging technology for detecting and\ncharacterizing targets and cultural features for military and geosciences applications.\nIt is essential to have fine range and cross-range resolution to characterize objects\nnear and under severe clutter. This Tutorial is divided into five parts.\n The Early History of Battlefield Surveillance Radar: Battlefield surveillance\nfrom manned and unmanned aircraft\, along with early experiments in fixed\nand moving target detection and foliage penetration are covered.\n UWB Phased Array Antenna: Wideband waveforms place a significant\ndemand on the ESA design to maintain gain and sidelobe characteristics.\nDesign of ESA systems with time delay steering and digital beamforming will\nbe described.\n UWB Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR): A brief description of several UWB\nsurveillance SAR systems will be provided\, along with illustrations of the SAR\nimage and fixed object detection capability.\n UWB Ground Moving Target Indication: Space time adaptive processing\n(STAP) has been used for over 20 years for detecting and tracking moving\ntargets in clutter. As the resolution is improved for target characterization\,\nthe limits of STAP are tested. This section will discuss two approaches for\nincreasing the bandwidth and maintaining geolocation accuracy: wideband\nSTAP and Along Track Interferometry.\n New research in Multi-mode Ultra-Wideband Radar\, with the design of both\nSAR and moving target indication (MTI) FOPEN systems. The last section of\nthe lecture will illustrate new technologies that have promise for future\nmultimode operation: simultaneous SAR and GMTI in a multichannel radar.\nSunday\, October 31\, 2021\, 15:00\nRoom 011\, Kitot building\nRoom: Auditorium 011\, Bldg: Engineering Classroom Building\, Tel Aviv University \, Tel Aviv\, Tel Aviv District\, Israel\, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/286430
