DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Israel Student Section together with IEEE Young Professionals in Israel are pleased to announce its 3rd graduate student and YP convention (IEEEI-SYP). The 3rd IEEEI-SYP will be hosted at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in the Technion\, in Tuesday\, March 07\, 2017. \nThe IEEEI-SYP convention gives to its attendees the opportunity to present their research in a professional\, yet casual environment. The convention is a platform for meetings and exchange of ideas between students in adjacent research fields\, and between students and senior researchers and industry professionals. \n \nThe convention also serves as a catalyst in bringing together participants from academia and industry to help foster new connections and ideas. The program includes keynote speakers and workshops\, as well as a poster session on today’s state-of-the-art research conducted by graduate students from around the country. \nIn addition\, a job fair targeting specifically graduate students in the various fields of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, will be held with the participation of leading high-tech companies. \nWe are looking forward to seeing you in the 3rd IEEEI-SYP ! \n \nAdvance registration is required (the registration will be open soon). At IE\, he teaches “Intelligence Tools for the Finance Professional”\, advanced non-market strategy courses\, and a variety of Geopolitics-related courses in the MBA and Masters in Advanced Finance programs. \nMilo is also a staff member of Wal-Mart’s Leadership Academy\, where he works with the retailer’s senior leadership on questions surrounding strategy\, geopolitics and technology. At minimum\, these technologies put enormous pressure on firms to keep innovating. But what are their wider implications for management? \nThis session will look at how these technologies are already being applied in fields like Retailing\, Finance\, Consulting\, the Law\, Journalism and Medicine. It will then seek to answer questions like\, “What have we learned about good management in this ‘Brave New World’? How do these technologies change optimal team structure and behaviour? \nIn other words\, what do we already know about making best use of teams as the impact of Robotics\, Big Data and AI spread?” \nIn parallel\, Aharon also served as a Chairman of the Board at Discretix (2003-2010)\, a startup company providing mobile security that was acquired by ARM in 2015. Prof. Mendlovic was associated with Erlangen University as a MINERVA postdoctoral fellow\, later joining Tel-Aviv University as a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering\, where at present he is a Full Professor of electro-optics. Prof. Mendlovic has authored more than 200 technical articles\, 3 book chapters\, and is the holder of more than 30 patents all of them have been commercialized. \nProf. Mendlovic is a founder of successful opto-electronics startup companies (e.g.\, Civcom and Eyesquad) and served as their CEO. Civcom Inc. was acquired by Padtec S/A of Brazil\, Eyesquad was acquired by Tessera Inc (NASDAQ symbol: TSRA). Recently\, Prof. Mendlovic founded Corephotonics\, a new startup that deals with the creation of advanced compact camera technologies. He serves as the CEO of Corephotonics. \nProf. Mendlovic is the 1998 winner of the ICO (International Commission of Optics) Award\, in recognition of his contribution to the optical signal processing area. \nSince January 2008 till September 2010\, Prof. Mendlovic was the Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Science. At present he serves as the Chairman of the Industrial Affiliates Program and Vice Dean for Research of the Faculty of Engineering. Prof. Mendlovic also gathers the new TAU Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. \n			Raviv Melamed		 \nRaviv is the CEO and Co-founder of Vayyar. Prior to Vayyar\, Raviv was the Vice-President of the Intel Architecture Group and General Manager of Intel’s Worldwide Mobile Wireless Group. Raviv joined Intel in 2004 as part of Intel’s acquisition of Envara\, a fabless semi-conductor company based in Israel\, where he served as Vice President of R&D. \nPrior to that he held several roles in the Israel Defense Force in large scale radar and communication projects. Igor research interests include analysis of communications systems with nonlinearities and MIMO systems. Igor holds a BSc\, MSc and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University\, Israel. \n			Eszter Lukács		 \nEszter is the IEEE Client Services and University Partnership Program Manager for Europe and Israel\, providing outreach\, education and awareness for organizations who subscribe to IEEE online content. Eszter offers free online or on-site seminars and training programs on the IEEE Xplore Digital Library for various user communities\, including librarians\, engineers\, researchers\, students\, faculty and authors.  \nEszter also supports initiatives and information needs of IEEE Student Branches. Prof. Mendlovic was associated with Erlangen University as a MINERVA postdoctoral fellow\, later joining Tel-Aviv University as a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering\, where at present he is a Full Professor of electro-optics. \nProf. Mendlovic has authored more than 200 technical articles\, 3 book chapters\, and is the holder of more than 30 patents all of them have been commercialized. Prof. Mendlovic is a founder of successful opto-electronics startup companies (e.g.\, Civcom and Eyesquad) and served as their CEO. Civcom Inc. was acquired by Padtec S/A of Brazil\, Eyesquad was acquired by Tessera Inc (NASDAQ symbol: TSRA).  \nRecently\, Prof. Mendlovic founded Corephotonics\, a new startup that deals with the creation of advanced compact camera technologies. He serves as the CEO of Corephotonics. Prof. Mendlovic is the 1998 winner of the ICO (International Commission of Optics) Award\, in recognition of his contribution to the optical signal processing area. \nSince January 2008 till September 2010\, Prof. Mendlovic was the Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Science. At present he serves as the Chairman of the Industrial Affiliates Program and Vice Dean for Research of the Faculty of Engineering. Prof. Mendlovic also gathers the new TAU Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. \n			Raviv Melamed		 \nRaviv is the CEO and Co-founder of Vayyar. Prior to Vayyar\, Raviv was the Vice-President of the Intel Architecture Group and General Manager of Intel’s Worldwide Mobile Wireless Group.  \nRaviv joined Intel in 2004 as part of Intel’s acquisition of Envara\, a fabless semi-conductor company based in Israel\, where he served as Vice President of R&D. Prior to that he held several roles in the Israel Defense Force in large scale radar and communication projects. Raviv holds BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University\, Israel. \n			Nimrod Vromen		 \nNimrod is a Partner in the Hi-Tech Department at Yigal Arnon & Co. Law Firm. Nimrod has been living and breathing the Israeli high-tech community for the past decade.  \nNimrod’s specialties: representation of private technology companies and Israeli and foreign venture capital funds (hundreds of transactions over almost a decade); emphasizing on private financing\, mergers and acquisitions\, and general corporate and commercial matters. Nimrod holds an LLM and Executive MBA from Tel-Aviv University. \n			Dr. Gutman Igor		 \nSince 2013 Igor has been with Qualcomm\, working on development of advanced algorithms for physical layer of LTE/WiGig (60GHz band) modems. From 2003 to 2013 Igor held a various positions in the field of signal processing in GO Networks\, Alvarion and Intel. \nIgor research interests include analysis of communications systems with nonlinearities and MIMO systems. Prior to Ceragon Networks\, Inon was Vice President of the Electronic Research and Development Department of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (1985-1996). Inon holds BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from Tel Aviv University. \n			Aharon Aharon		 \nAharon joined Apple in 2011 as its first Apple employee in Israel\, managing the R&D activities of Apple’s Hardware Technologies in Israel\, as well as supervising Apple Israel site. Prior to Apple\, Aharon co-founded Camero (2004-2010)\, a startup company selling imaging systems for the defense and HLS markets. \nIn parallel\, Aharon also served as a Chairman of the Board at Discretix (2003-2010)\, a startup company providing mobile security that was acquired by ARM in 2015. Aharon was the CEO of Seabridge (2001-2003)\, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens\, developing access aggregators in communication networks.  \nPrior to Seabridge\, Aharon served as a COO as Zoran (1997-2001)\, and worked at IBM Haifa Research Labs\, Sr. Manager and Deputy head (1983-1997). Before joining Intel\, Vered managed multi-disciplinary groups of hardware\, VLSI and software engineers in small and large companies in Israel and The US. \nHolds over 20 granted and pending patents in wireless communications. Winner of Qualcomm’s 2010 innovation contest. Vered holds an MBA from Northwestern University (Kellogg-Recanatti 2010) and BSC from Tel Aviv University (1991). \n			Oren Hagai		 \nOren is the president and CTO of INTERLLIGENT RF & Microwave solutions. He founded the company on 2000\, and was responsible for developing the business from its inception to its current corporate level. Oren is a recognized expert in the field of RF and Microwave engineering and still makes time from his busy schedule to teach advanced microwave subjects at INTERLLIGENT’s training division. \nIn addition to managing the engineering activities at INTERLLIGENT\, Oren keeps up to date with the latest technologies by actively participating in design reviews as well as attending and presenting at conferences and technical seminars.  \nPrior to establishing INTERLLIGENT\, Oren studied electrical engineering at Tel-Aviv university and served as a Microwave Expert in the IDF. Oren has held an amateur radio license since his teenage years and is still active today (4X1VI). \n			Gabi Zodik		 \nGabi is the Director for IoT and MobileFirst Platforms in Research\, as well as the Department Group Manager of the Mobile and Industry Solutions Dept. at IBM Haifa Research. Gabi oversees the lab’s research and development efforts in Mobile\, IoT\, Wearables\, and emerging Cloud Computing platforms.  \nIn his IoT and MobileFirst global role\, Gabi oversees all the research activities in IoT and Mobile platforms. DESCRIPTION:HISTELCON 2015\, the HISTory of ELectrotechnology CONference of IEEE Region 8\, was held at Tel-Aviv University\, Israel\, on 16-20 August 2015. The Conference was organized by IEEE Israel Section in conjunction with the 42th Annual Meeting of ICOHTEC (International Committee on History of Technology) and with Technical Cooperation of IEEE History Center\, represented at the event by Dr. Michael Geselowitz and Dr. John Vardalas. \nThe Theme of the Conference was: History of High-Technologies and their Socio-Cultural Contexts. The Joint Conference had about 120 registered attendees with\, in addition\, about 40 part-time attendees. It included 31 Sessions and 4 Plenaries. \nRegion 8 was represented by its Director – Costas Stasopoulos and its Past-Director – Martin Bastiaans.The IEEE organizers were: J.
